Thoughtful Conversation

ABOUT PARLANCE

Exploring the art of conversation. A slow journal centred around life, curiosity and purpose.

Exploring the art of conversation. A slow journal centred around life, curiosity, purpose and the sharing of ideas through conversation & photography. Set up by London-based photographer and thinker Rachel Byrne, to connect with and learn from others.

Slow Release; a primary focus is on taking time, moving slowly, and publishing conversations at a pace that makes the process enjoyable and inspiring for the creator. I might release 3 journal entries per year. Strictly moving away from quick and empty content creation, and focusing on sharing ideas, insight and enjoying intimacy through conversation. Embracing growth, learning and honesty.

Other than to check spelling and grammar, AI has purposefully been rejected in all forms when creating journal entries, because going the slow road often gives me more; improved patience, more practice of my art form. The words I will write will be filled with human intellect and filled with emotion, reason or meaning.

Best,

Rachel

EVE ALLEN

There exists an (un)holy trinity; capitalism, aggressive marketing on social media, and over-consumption, which leads to an acceleration in the effects of climate change.

An internal battle many people face is exposure to these mixed messages – a manipulation to buy more – contradicting to a feed of news stories

TRANSIENCE

And for some magical years I will have been alive And had some chances And been brave enough to take them.   These years will have been magical because life is magical. I don’t know what the thing is that powers my brain and my heart And neither does science.

LESSONS FROM MY 3RD DECADE

I used to play chess with my uncle. He would comment on my game. I noticed that my approach to chess was mirroring my approach to life. Even when I could, I would never go straight for the king. I would never go straight after what I wanted in life.

JOSIAH CALUORI

He came to the studio wearing his Uggs, “They’re so comfy – I even play football in them.” I talk to Josiah Caluori, nineteen, and modelling on his gap year. A wise head on young shoulders; he explains the importance of emotional literacy, and the joy of being an introvert.

NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC MAGAZINE, 1931 Issue

A recent trip to my hometown led me to the March 1931 issue of The National Geographic magazine. Reviewing their feature article, I observe the changes in culture since this issue was published, and share a couple of thoughts from my time in Glasgow. Words, Rachel Byrne

WARREN MENDY GOMES

A conversation with Warren Mendy Gomes. Fresh out of drama school, the actor and model talks about the importance of preparation, taking his career into his own hands and learning to assert boundaries. Menswear by Walker Slater.

DAILY THOUGHTS No.2

Rethinking Success. Is our traditional view of success serving us? I encourage a sense of honesty and scrutiny when figuring out what it means to us individually, and consider an alternative perspective to the current standardised blueprint.

DAILY THOUGHTS No.1

TIME. Considering our perception of time; our relationship with it, and the value in moving slowly.
